De-soda-fication Update

Hey, y'all! I am feeling pretty good about not drinking cokes! I had a major temptation today. Zaxby's now has Dr. Pepper. mmmm. Yum Gross. I will say, I have been doing slightly better with being motivated and the housework. I cannot say 100% that it's from not drinking cokes, but somehow I must say, I think it is. Also, water is starting to taste better.

Thanks for sticking with me on my journey to 100 days no cokes. Next week I'll post more reasons not to drink coke. Today, I'm tired.

Goodnight.

Yesterday

Yesterday, I spent the whole day thinking I was going to Missouri for a funeral. My step mom's dad (my step-grandpa if you will) passed on Valentine's Day. Spent the whole day packing for Miss Cakes and I. Honestly, the whole day. Until about 5 pm. That's how long it takes with a needy baby. She's not always needy. Yesterday was the exception. Turns out I'm not going to Missouri.
I feel torn about the decision. I want to be there for the family. Maybe I'll get to go up there later this week.

De-soda-fication: Reasons 8-15

How's everybody's week going? Have a good Valentine's Day? I'll have to do a Valentine's post later, but now I want to brag update about my De-soda-fication, as I've dubbed it.

I am still going strong and soft drink free! This will be day 15. It is getting harder and easier at the same time. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. Most days I am okay, but days when:
  • The dogs drive me nuts
  • Addy wakes up an extra number of times the night before
  • I eat pizza (In my opinion, nothing tastes better with pizza than Coke or beer)
  • I eat Mexican (the same opinion from above applies here as well)
  • I hear a can of Coke being opened
  • I forget to bring a drink with me when I go out
I really really really really want one.

But No. I. Will. Stay. Strong!

While I am trying to forever give up the Co-Cola (Learned that spelling from The Help), I've decide that for short term goal and blog purposes, 100 days is the goal. And around 100 reasons not to drink soft drinks/colas/pop/soda. Sound good to you? Sounds great to me. Glad we're all on the same page.

I highly HIGHLY recommend reading this post from Food Babe. She does a way better explaining the picture above, and if I were to try explaining it, I'd just be restating what she says. Rather than do that, just click any of the links above. Or here. Or here. :)post signature

Super Tired Vs. So Much To Do.

I hate being at the corner of super-baby-woke-up-three-times-last-night-tired and kitchen-is-disgusting-laundry-needs-to-be-done-floors-gross-etc. It's a huge mental debate of whether or not to just go to bed and try again tomorrow, or just suck it up and do something productive.
On one hand: I'm tired. Addy will wake up again at least once tonight, and she wakes up for good about 5:30 in the AM so I should probably just go get what little sleep I can.
One the other hand: I'm getting super stressed and overwhelmed at the condition of this house.

There's really only one logical solution:

I decided to write this blog post instead. :)

How do you handle the tired vs productiveness? Anyone else do this:

Seven Reasons Not to Drink Cokes

I'm day seven soft drink free! Although, I should be completely honest. I am drinking a butt load of sweet tea and coffee. By coffee I mean coffee with sugar and that powdered flavor cream stuff. I don't actually like coffee. I'm just drinking it as substitute for the cola. Then I'll cut that out too. It's usually decaf or 1/2 caf. I do love me some Starbucks mocha. The best is the peppermint mocha during Christmas time. YUM.

Anywho..
In "honor" of 7 day soda free, Here's a list of reasons why you should be miserable soda free with me:

1. Soda causes tooth decay. All that sugar, and the acid takes the enamal off your teeth.

2. Cokes make you fat (yep, even diet).

3. Money. Water = free. Soft drinks = not free.

4. Bad for the earth.

5. Soda damages your liver.

6. Kidney stones and other kidney damage and issues.

7. Because I need someone to suffer get healthy with me.

Did I motivate anyone? Need better explanations? I can give ya that. When I'm not craving delicious bubbly Coke on my tongue. mmmm. Why am I doing this again? Oh yeah, the above reasons and then some.

Change It!

After two years, I still remember the lecture on wellness/well being we heard in our walking class (yes, you read that right, walking- yes, in college). We talked about how most of the diseases out there are preventable, such as a person having kidney problems at 50 because they didn't drink water.

She said "you hate your job? You can change that.  Find another one."

Being abused at home?  "You don't have to take that.  That's what welfare is for.  Take the kids, get an apartment, get on some food stamps, and change it.

If you're over 18, and being physically, verbally, or sexually abused, you choose to stay.  You don't have to sit there."

She went into saying that she heard her roommate yell at his girlfriend for an hour the other night.  "What a waste of time.  What a waste of an hour.  Nobody's going to talk to me that way."

Have stress?  Change it.

Never once did she it's easy to do.  She just simply said you can.

If you don't like something in your life, change it.

It's not easy.

It's hard work.

It takes time.

It's worth it.

I repeat. If you don't like something in your life. Change it.

Change it!

Thanks for reading! What are you trying to change? What are you waiting for?

**2/9/13: Please note this post is a retelling of a class lecture, and meant as encouragement and inspiration. It is NOT supposed to be harsh, nor victim blaming. Different things mean different things to different people, and if you find this post negative, then this post is just not for you. I am taking the comments written on this post as a lesson for future posts to check and re-check that my point is coming across. Thank you**post signature

Meal Plan Monday

Linking up with I'm an Organizing Junkie!

Here's this week's meals:

Tonight, as well as many people linking up, we had leftovers from yesterday (wings, pizza, and I made some broccoli to feel slightly less disgusting)

Tuesday:  Baked chicken with garlic spinach* and cornbread

Wednesday: Sweet and spicy Italian stir fry

Thursday: Fettuccine Alfredo* with chicken, broccoli, mushrooms

Friday: Pizza night. Until we get tired of it, Fridays are now officially pizza night. Sometimes homemade, sometimes ordered in, sometimes frozen.

Saturday or Sunday: meatloaf, some type of potato (undecided on how I'm fixing them), possibly more cornbread, green beans

Leftover the other weekend day.

*I'm slowly trying to start making more "clean meals." Hopefully one day my whole menu plan will be clean, healthy, and delicious. Oh, and something everyone will eat. This may take awhile...

In other news:
I am day four soft drink free!
I finally printed out my planner. Pictures and post hopefully this week.

Thank you so much for stopping by! What delicious meals are you preparing this week? Any tips for clean eating?

Good Bye, Coke

...and we're 2 days in of trying YET AGAIN to give up my major addiction to Coke (in the south, all soft drinks are Cokes.) I'd go into more details, but I helped host a baby shower today, and then went out to dinner for a family birthday.

Good night.post signature
